Walk Your Way to Better Health

“Walking is man’s best medicine.” — Hippocrates

One of the most powerful ways to maintain a healthy weight, develop muscle strength, and live longer is also one of the simplest. Walking can:

1. Improve heart health and lower the risk for heart disease and stroke.

2. Lower stress and improve mood by releasing endorphins (“feel-good” chemicals) in the brain.

3. Strengthen joints and reduce the progression of arthritis.

4. Control blood sugar and lower the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

5. Boost immune function to help fight off illness.

Walk just 30 minutes a day to realize these health benefits. You can even break it up into three 10-minute sessions: walk around the house while your coffee brews; park in the furthest spot from the store; go around the block to get to the mailbox, or take the dog for an extra walk (it’s good for his health, too)!
